About the project

Build at 1950s the voivodeship road No 812 link the city of Biała Podlaska with Włodawa, Chełm and Krasnystaw on a distance of 151 km. The importance of the road was underlined by the fact that till the year of 2000 it had a status of the national road, marked as DK83.

Road has a significant importance for the cross border area of Poland and Ukraine. It’s the shortest way from Biała Podlaska to the border crossing point in Dorohusk, connecting north-eastern part of Poland with the main transportation channel to Kiev. In the future it will link TEN-T network (road No 17) with planned border crossing point in Zbereże-Adamczuki.

Thanks to the development of the Road No 812 on the section of almost 5 km:

Safety of the pedestrians and bikes will increase due to the building of 743 m of the pavement, 3,383 m of bike line to be used by bikers and pedestrians and 1,586 m of the bike path;

Building of 8 bus bays on those places where the bus stops were located directly on the roadway, rebuilding of the 8 crossings and 1 roundabout and extension of the road width to 7 m with hard roadsides of 1,5 m on each side will ensure smooth and more safe road traffic;

This is an environmentally friendly project,  the influence of the building works will be temporary, with a local character (trees will be protected, the works performed only during the day time, neutralizing sorbent will be used in case of any spillage, etc.).

We will use an innovative technology of rubblizing that allow to use existing concrete slabs  to create a base for new roadway instead of their storage on the dump sites.

The project follows the rules of the  equal opportunity – it follow the rules of the universal design, that to make them accessible to all people, regardless of age, disability or other factors without the necessity of their remodelling (e.g. low difference between the road surface and the pavement on the pedestrian crossings for mothers with a baby carriage and for peoples with disabilities).

Taking into consideration its huge value for the border area, the project is implemented in a close cooperation with Ukrainian partner. Their representatives participate actively in Steering Committee  meetings and related visits on the reconstructed road sites. They participate also in two international conferences focused on the road building issues realised within the project.

Joint meetings and visits give  the opportunity to familiarize with technology used for roads’ building and improvement, and with modern construction and engineering techniques. Experience of Polish specialists may support Ukrainian partners to realise similar works on their territory using similar techniques and in comparable quality. High authorities of the Lubelskie Voivodeship and Volyn Oblast are involved into the project implementation and as a consequence, the meetings of the Steering Committee serve not only for project management but also as a platform to discuss topics related to the condition and improvement of the road infrastructure  in a border area, especially roads directed to the border crossing points and supporting infrastructure (e.g. planned building of the car terminal  in Dorohusk, improvement of road infrastructure on Ukrainian side, planned new border crossing point Zbereże – Adamczuki, building of a new logistic centre in Kovel in Ukraine, etc.). They serve also to intense the cooperation between Lubelskie voivodeship and Volyn Oblast.

Project untitled “Extension of the voivodeship road No 812 on the section Korolowka – Wlodawa’ is implemented within the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Poland-Belarus-Ukraine 2014-2020 and financed by EU from European Neighbourhood Instrument.
